Culture Moves Europe’s first call for individual mobility targets artists and cultural professionals working in the following sectors : music, literary translation, architecture, cultural heritage, design and fashion design, visual arts and performing arts.

It offers mobility grants for applicants legally residing in a country that participates in the Creative Europe Programme and travelling to another Creative Europe country.

About the programme

Culture moves Europe provides mobility grants for artists and cultural professionals in all 40 creative Europe countries. It covers the sectors of architecture, cultural heritage, design and fashion design, literary translation, music, performing arts and visual arts. The scheme follows the successful i-Portunus pilot project that took place between 2018 and 2022.  

With a budget of €21 million, culture moves Europe offers mobility grants to around 7.000 artists, cultural professionals and host organisations from 2022 to 2025. Funded by the creative Europe programme of the European Union, culture moves Europe is implemented by the Goethe-Institut.

Mobility actions

The scheme consists of two action lines: individual mobility (for individuals and groups of up to five persons) and residencies.  

1. Individual mobility action

The individual mobility action offers financial support to individuals who travel between 7 and 60 days or groups of up to 5 persons who travel between 7 and 21 days.

2. Residency action

The residency action is aimed at organisations and established individual artists who regularly organise residencies and are interested in hosting artists and cultural professionals.

Eligibility

Any emerging or established artist/creator/cultural professional, working in one or several sectors of the culture strand of the Creative Europe programme, is eligible to apply.

Sectors of the culture strand are:

  • music
  • literary translation
  • architecture
  • performing arts
  • visual arts
  • design and fashion design
  • cultural heritage

Those working in the audio-visual sector are not eligible to participate in Culture Moves Europe. Check the available funding opportunities of the MEDIA strand of the Creative Europe programme.

The mobility scheme is open to individuals of a minimum of 18 years old.

Eligible countries

Applicants legally residing in one of the countries participating in the Creative Europe programme are eligible to take part in Culture Moves Europe. Check out on this page if your country is part of the Creative Europe programme.

If you are legally residing in a country that participates in the Creative Europe programme you will need to provide proof of residency during the application process.

Duration

Minimum duration: the mobility project cannot be less than 7 days for either individual or group applications.

Maximum duration: for individuals, the grant covers a maximum of 60 days; for groups (from 2 to 5 people), the maximum is 21 days.

Application

The applicant/group leader needs to create an account on the Goethe Application Portal [link: https://gap-online.goethe.de/en-US/ ]. As soon as the application period is open, the applicant/group leader, can fill out and submit an application.
